Gemstone Meanings | What Can They Tell You?

Did you know that each gemstone has a different meaning and origination? The six different types discussed here are: aquamarine, diamond, emerald, garnet, pearl, and sapphire. Gemstone meanings are very intriguing and may influence which type of gemstone you might purchase at some point in your life.

Aquamarine

Aquamarine is the Latin word for seawater, which is a great way to describe it’s color. It is a light, almost clear blue color. It also functions as the gemstone for those born in the month of March. According to Jewels For Me, “The Greeks and the Romans knew the aquamarine as the sailor’s gem, ensuring the safe and prosperous passage across stormy seas. Another Roman legend stated that the stone absorbs the atmosphere of young love: “When blessed and worn, it joins in love, and does great things.” Due to its absorption of an atmosphere of young love, it is said to also help to reignite love. It is also said to be a cure for many sicknesses as well as protection in battle. Ultimately, it can create an overall sense of well-being and help your mind work quickly.

Diamond

Charms of Light refers to the diamond as a gemstone of purity. It brings clarity to every aspect of life: your mental state, relationships, and body health. Diamonds are also said to increase energy levels, both negatively and positively. Due to the mental clarity that it provides, it can help to increase creativity, enlightenment, and imagination. You will also find that you will be less fearful and feel more of a bond and trust in relationships. It can help to detox your body in order to build up strength. It is also the birthstone for April. Emerald is known by Crystal Vaults as the growth gem. It is most typically a deep, rich green color. Crystal Vaults also calls it: “The Stone of Successful Love. Emerald opens and nurtures the heart. [It] promotes friendship and the balance between partners, and is particularly known for providing domestic bliss, contentment, and loyalty. The emerald is also a stone of great vision and intuition, associated with the eyes and sight, long believed to foretell future events and reveal one’s truths. It enhances memory and increases mental clarity. It combines intelligence with discernment, and brings to the conscious mind what is unconsciously known.” It is the birthstone of May.

Garnet

The birthstone of January, HUR Jewelers describes it as: “A warrior stone. Garnet was carried as an amulet by travelers to avoid accidents, they were used as bullets due to their hardness and “perceived as poisonous” red color. It was also used as a royal gem by the Persians. Red garnets were believed to relieve fevers and yellow to cure jaundice.” It can be found in any color except blue.

Pearl

For quite some time, pearls were known as the most valuable gem. Crystal Cure explains that: “Unlike all [other] gems, the pearl is organic matter derived from a living creature – oysters and some other mollusks. Some believe that pearls were formed by the passage of angels through the clouds of heaven.” This gemstone exudes innocence. Oftentimes, it is used in weddings.
