CC: I will be beginning my fourth year at Katahdin Valley Health Center in June. Although this will be my last year on my contract, I intend to continue my public health work. Although I might be offered the position of dental director at KVHC dave’s health and nutrition, which would be a great opportunity, I want to see my patients in Millinocket and Brownville. I plan to continue my education in pediatrics so that I am able to treat more children. I also have conversations with local hospitals about the possibility of working under general anesthesia.
What do you love most about your job at Katahdin Valley Health Center?
CC: It’s a pleasure to be able provide care to those who might not have the financial means to pay for private dentistry. It is the ability to change someone’s perception of dentistry and public health that keeps me going. Some people assume that the FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Centers) work will be poor. It is a common misconception. However, it is rewarding when patients see the value in the services we offer. I find it rewarding to see a patient who is dental fearful become someone who enjoys coming to the practice and encourages others to do the same. This makes me more willing to be patient with patients who need more work and takes longer to reach a comfortable place.
